

Dr. Dorothy McConnell, age 91 of Temple, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at her residence. Services will be held at 9:30 AM Wednesday, February 17th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at 2:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Dr. McConnell was born September 4, 1924 in Cocoa, Florida to Albert and Norma Statzer Fraiser. She received her bachelor’s degree from PanAm University, master’s degree from Auburn University and her doctorate from Baylor University. She was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII. She married Fredrick Earl McConnell in 1947. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1981. She had lived in the Temple area over 50 years. She was a professor at UMHB for 10 years retiring in 1975 as Dean of Students. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple and O. E. S. Vashti Chapter. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Ronald Fraiser. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth McConnell Bargas of Paige, Texas, one son, Lester E. McConnell and wife, Yvonne of Conroe, four grandchildren, Brandi Wilburn, Nathan McConnell, Sabrina Ramstedt and Adam McConnell and nine great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Niko, Andrew, Haylee, Ty, Diego, Fynnygynn, Hobson and Killian. Also surviving is one sister, Vida Brown and husband, Harold of Arcadia, Florida and one brother, Wyatt Fraiser and wife, Phyllis of Macon, Georgia. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Autism Speaks.
