

Edward D. (Ed) Holcombe, age 83, of Temple died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at a local nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 19 at First Baptist Church in Temple with Dr. Martin Knox and Rev. Doug Young officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Holcombe was born on November 20, 1925 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Everett A. and Viola (Dickey) Holcombe. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from LSU. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII. He married Carol Morgan on June 27, 1958 in Denham Springs, Louisiana. He retired in 1990 after 43 years with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. He had been a resident of Temple since 1971. He had also resided in Alexandria, Louisiana, De Ridder, Louisiana and Lake City, Florida. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple where he was a deacon, he taught the Singles Class, he sang in the sanctuary choir and volunteered with CTLC. He was also a member of American Legion Post #133, NARFE and Xi Sigma Pi Professional Forestry Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Carol Morgan Holcombe of Temple, two sons, James E. Holcombe and wife, Lisa of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Robert E. Holcombe and wife, Gloria of Manhattan, Kansas, two daughters, Nancy H. Wilson of Austin and Kelly H. Denman and husband, Bryan of Houston. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Gabe Holcombe of Chicago, Illinois, Aaron Holcombe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Travis Denman, Sydney Denman and Abigail Denman all of Houston, Lydia Wilson and Brooke Wilson both of Austin, one brother, Austin Holcombe, Jr. and wife, Georgine of Bogalusa and a former son-in-law, Steve Wilson of Austin.
