Erick Caballero

Erick Caballero, age 42 of Austin, formerly of Temple, died Sunday, August 8, 2021 at an Austin hospital. Funeral service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00pm Friday, August 13, 2021 at the funeral home.

Mr. Caballero was born on September 10, 1978 in Weslaco, Texas to Dora Rios Caballero and Juan Caballero. He worked at Austin Retina Associates in Austin as a photographer. Erick loved bike riding and anything Star Wars. He also was known for being a sharp dressed man. He dearly loved his three legged cat, Captain Jack.

Survivors include his mother, Dora Rios and step-father Larry Thorne of Belton; his father, Juan Caballero and wife Mary of Dallas; grandmother, Flora Rios; sisters, Roxanna Salazar of Belton, and nephews Xavier Watson, Essac Salazar and Michael Buitron; and Nicole Crump of Austin; and brothers, Juan Caballero, Jr. of Dallas, James Caballero of Dallas and Robert Caballero of Dallas. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Thorne, Keith Gillard, Daniel Ochoa, Anthony Thomas, Zachary Davis, Fabian Sustaita, Alfred Rodriguez and Mario Ruelas. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Ovidio Sanchez, Jr.

The family would like to thank Erick’s coworkers at Austin Retina Associates for the care and compassion shown to them and Erick during Erick’s illness.
