Frances Tinsley Secrest Barrett

MRS. FRANCES TINSLEY SECREST BARRETT Mrs. Frances Tinsley Secrest Barrett, age 90, died at her home in Temple on Sunday, February 5, 2006. She was born on September 13, 1915 in Georgetown to Frances (Nellie) Spillman Tinsley and Dr. Randolph Wood Tinsley, professor of geology and biology at Southwestern University. She was a 1936 graduate of Southwestern University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She married Jarrard Secrest on June 5, 1937, who preceded her in death in July, 1966. She married William B. Barrett on December 14, 1974, who preceded her in death in August 2001. She was also preceded in death by two sisters. Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Temple for many years where she served as president of the WSCS. Her social affiliations include President of the Texas Senate Ladies Club, President of the Temple City Federation, President of the Past President's Club, President of the Antique Glass Club, President of the Temple Study Club, Nan Brown Garden Club, and DAR. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Secrest and wife Ann, of Temple and Robert Randolph Secrest of Temple: two grandsons, Jarrard Kimbriel Secrest of San Antonio and James Randolph Secrest and wife, of Temple; two great-grandchildren, Preston Lewis Secrest and Tinsley Artz Secrest of Temple; three nephews and one niece. Services for Ms. Barrett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2006, at First United Methodist Church, Temple, Texas with burial at Bellwood Memorial Park immediately following. Pallbearers will be Judge Jimmy Carroll, Mr. Louis Casey, Dr. Chuck Cox, Mr. David Hundley, Mr. Bob Mullins, Mr. Mike Mullins, Mr. Pat Mullins and Mr. Paul Tipton. Honorary Pallbearers include Mr. Bill Bondurant, Mr. Jim Bowmer, Dr. Bert Debord, Dr. David Eanes, Mr. Randolph Hewitt, Dr. Jesse Ibarra, Mr. Robert Lee, Judge Bill Lott, Mr. Keifer Marshall, Jr., Mr. Randy Secrest, and Mr. Troy Tipton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 102 North 2nd Street, Temple, Texas 76501. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
