
Mrs. Gayle Lips Mrs. Gayle Lips, 94 of Temple died Saturday December 1, 2007 in a Temple care center. Services for Mrs. Lips will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday December 4, 2007 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Robert Baugh and Minister Loyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Dyess Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Lips was born in Bell County, Texas the daughter of John S. and Pearl Tucker Henson. She was born in Bell County, Texas on August 16, 1913, to John S. and Pearl Tucker Henson. She was a graduate of Stringtown School and had attended Heidenheimer School. She was also a graduate of Washington School of Art in Port Washington, New York. As a young adult she sang alto as part of the Henson Family Quartet. She married Arnold Lips on December 5, 1931; he preceded her on November 28, 1978. They lived on a farm east of Heidenheimer. She became a member of the Church of Christ at an early age and had been a member of churches at Stringtown, Heidenheimer, and Avenue T church in Temple. During W.W. II she was employed at McCloskey General Hospital in food service, advancing to supervisor of Mess Hall No. 2. She later worked in retail sales at Buttrey's, C.R. Anthony Co. and Career Girl. Since 1968, she had taught fundamental art principles and oil painting in her home studio. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters. She is survived by 2 daughters, Dianita Lips Driver of Temple, and Rachel Lips Martin of Snyder. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. A family visitation will be held from 6 until 8 PM Monday December 3, 2007 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Cherokee Children's Home Post Office Box 295 Cherokee, Texas 76832. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
