George V. Mitchell, age 90 of Temple, died Monday, October 24, 2016 in a local care center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 27th at Temple Garden of Memories. Mr. Mitchell was born February 22, 1926 in Runnels County, Texas to Jesse Wayne Mitchell and Mary Lee Hargrove Mitchell. He attended schools in Winters. He married Loretta Smith on February 19, 1949 in Houston. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2007. He was a S/Sgt. in the U. S. Army. He had been a resident of Temple for the past 55 years. He worked as a surgical nurse at the Tempe V. A. Hospital retiring in 1974. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, J. W. Mitchell and one sister, Inez Roe. Survivors include two sons, George D. Mitchell of Durango, Colorado and John Mitchell and wife, Elizabeth of Temple and one daughter, Martha A. Nelson of Temple, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
