
Mr. Herbert D. Horton Herbert D, Horton, 86 of Temple died Saturday December 1, 2007 at his residence. Services for Mr. Horton will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 5, 2007 at the Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple with Minister Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 AM Thursday December 6, 2007 at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mr. Horton was born Pittsburgh, Pa. the son of William M. and Edith Spense Horton. He married the former Ruth Howard December 2, 1945 in Fayetteville, Ark. She preceded him in death December 17, 2006. He attended Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh and St. Vincent College to receive his undergraduate and masters degrees. He received his doctor of laws from the University of Arkansas. He served as a SGT. in the U.S. Army Air Corp during W.W. II. Mr. Horton retired in 1982 after 30 years with the Gulf Oil Company as the Vice President of Contracts for the Eastern Hemisphere. Mr. Horton was one of the six founders of the Singapore Petroleum Club and was a member of the Land Man's Association. He also was a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Horton is survived by I daughter Trudy Burkham of Seattle, Wa., one son Scott Horton of Austin, Texas as well as two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A family visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday December 5, 2007 at the Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Parkinson's Disease Association. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
