Hubert Nelson Harris, Jr., age 63, of Academy died Friday, December 10, 2010 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 15, at Holland Cemetery with Rev. Brian West officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Harris was born on December 28, 1946 in Cameron to Hubert Nelson and Ella Marguerite (Dillard) Harris. He graduated from Academy High School in 1965 where he was on the football team and track team. He worked in construction for many years. He was a member of Little River Catfish Association, IHRA and APA. At Little River-Academy Dragway he was known as "Nitro Nelson". He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters, Marie Stewart and Kathy Sue Harris and a brother, David Lee Harris. Survivors include his mother, Ella Marguerite Harris of Academy, a sister, Patsy Harris Sievers of Temple, two sons, Michael Harris and wife, Mollie of Belton and Robert Nelson Harris and wife, Jessie Bishop of Academy and a daughter, Rita Marie Harris of Academy. Also surviving are two step daughters, Tammy DeAngelo of Little Elm, Renea Hawkins-Sanderson of Waco and five grandchildren.
