

Jackie Louise Davis Smith passed away peacefully March 21, 2018 at her residence in Temple. Born February 8, 1934 in Dallas the daughter of Luther and Loyce Davis, she graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School where she authored the WHHS school song. After graduating she attended the Secretarial School of Dallas. She met her future husband on a blind date and on December 25, 1953 she married Donald W. Smith in Canton, Texas. As a Navy wife she had several duty stations, the last of which was Jacksonville, FL. To her was born 5 children; Donald Coit Smith and wife Trish, Catherine Donese Scheffe and husband Gary, Troy Davis Smith and wife Donna, and twins Gary Freman Smith and wife Annette and Keith Malloy Smith and wife Lucinda. After her husband passed away in 1979 (all the kids were out of the house), she went to work for DeVry University as secretary to the president until her retirement in 1994 at which time she moved from DFW to Temple. While in Grapevine she was a 50 plus year member of the Grapevine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as a worthy Matron. She was a volunteer at the annual Grapevine Festival Days and lifetime member of the Texas PTA having served the Grapevine-Colleyville PTA’s for three schools. She was a member of the Fort Worth Aggie Mom’s Club for many years. She also served as Docent for the Grapevine Train Station Museum. In Temple Jackie was active in Meals on Wheels, The Review Club of Temple, City Federation, and Bell County Republican Woman’s Party. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Sr., parents, in-laws Frank and Catherine Smith, sisters Sue and Patsy, a brother Luther and grandson Don. She is survived by her 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Charles Smith, sisters Judy, Paula, Pam, and her beloved companion the caped crusader Batman (Her little Chihuahua) Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
