James Robert Rodgers

James Robert (Jim) Rodgers, age 70, of Temple died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, March 17, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2807 Oakdale in Temple with Rev. Larry Heimsoth as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held 6 – 8 PM Thursday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Rodgers was born November 2, 1935 in Taylor, Texas to John and Anna Ohlson Rodgers. He grew up in Temple and graduated from Temple High School in the class of 1954. He then went on to attend and play football at the University of Texas in Arlington and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Jim went on to serve in the U. S. Army and the Army National Guard of Texas. In 1970, he relocated to his hometown of Temple to become president and co-owner of Newton-Neroc Manufacturing Corporation and later founded Loop Office Furniture. He operated each of these businesses for a total of 35 years until 2005 and became well known as a businessman and family man in the community. Jim was known well as a wonderful Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. A more precious and kind soul could not be found. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church of Temple. Survivors include his wife, Betty Floyd Rodgers of Temple, his sons, Scott Rodgers of Dallas, Brett Rodgers and wife, Teresa of Austin and Keith Rodgers and wife Kelly of Lubbock, four grandchildren, Zachary, Blake, Isabella and Katherine. He is also survived by his mother, Ann Rodgers of Temple and his sister, Nancy Rodgers of Temple. He was preceded in death by his father, John Rodgers of Temple.
