James T. Lassiter

James T. Lassiter, age 80, of Temple died Sunday, March 28, 2010 in a local continuing care center. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 7, at North Belton Cemetery with Rev. Don Lynn officiating. Mr. Lassiter was born on August 6, 1929 in Stephens County to Chaney (Red) Lassiter and Lottie Thackerson Lassiter. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany until he was honorable discharged. Jim, as his friends knew him, had a strong faith in Jesus Christ. He was truly a good Christian person who dedicated his life to God and believed in serving Him in all aspects of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Temple for nearly 40 years. He also was totally devoted, not just to his wife, Dorothy, but to all of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were a joy to his life. Jim was a diehard Temple Wildcat supporter. Not only did he and Dorothy hold season tickets on the 50 yard line for over 30 years, they attended all the football games out-of-town, no matter how far the had to travel to se the "Cats" play. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 35 years, Dorothy E. Lassiter and a grandson, Christopher B. Wollard. Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Iva Lea and Garland Payne of Hamlin, two daughters, Sherry Lewis of Waco and Sandra Shaffner of Temple, four grandchildren, Steven Blake Wollard and wife, Carol of Grapevine, Lauren Kay Pruitt and husband, Todd of Waco, Stephanie Wollard of Dearborn, Michigan and Susan Teer of Belton, six great-grandchildren, Katie and Grace Wollard of Dearborn, Michigan, Kyler, Caleb and Ainsley Pruitt of Waco and Brant Prewitt of Grapevine. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Glenda Jo Henderson of Temple, Darline Womack of Fort Worth, one niece, Ann Cunningham of Hamlin and many great nieces and great nephews.
