

Joe "Jody" Velasquez, age 75, of Temple, formerly of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at a local hospital with his family by his side. He was born on April 18, 1949 in Amarillo, the son of Apolonio and Mary (Floyd) Velasquez.
Joe was a crossing guard for Temple ISD. He loved music and was very active in his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sports and activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Velasquez and Frankie Velasquez; sisters, Diana Garcia and Josephine Guajardo, and a son-in-law James Paine.
Survivors include his daughters, Monica Haudek and husband Mike of Temple and Laurinda Paine of Temple; son, Joseph Velasquez and wife Bridget of Lake Worth, FL; seven grandchildren, Devin Smith and wife Madeline of Harker Heights, Brandon Haudek and wife Baylee of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Derek Haudek of Temple, Andrew Paine and wife Venessa of Temple, Laurin Canava and husband Jaime of Temple, Jordan Velasquez and wife Jessica of Hutto and Olivia Velasquez of Lake Worth, Florida; seven great grandchildren, William Haudek, Serena Velasquez, Jackson Velasquez, Joshua Paine, Jaxsen Paine, Joseph Paine, and Isabelle “Izzy” Paine.
He is also survived by his brother Martin Velasquez, and his wife Rosemary of Amarillo, his sisters Betty Velasquez of Amarillo and Rosemary Samora, and her husband Paul of Amarillo.
In place of flowers, a donation box will be available at the service for a one-time, culminated donation to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
