

Joy Walker Farris, of Temple, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Arbor House in Temple. She was born October 17, 1937, in Seguin, Texas the daughter of Ed and Selma Lengefeld. Joy married Charles Edgar Walker in 1955 , who preceded her in death in 1976. They had three children, Charles Edgar (Eddie) Walker (Preceded her in death in 1992), Betty Lou Fell of Fairfax, Virginia, and Bruce Walker of Temple. Joy Married Andis Farris in 1977 and he preceded her in death in 1997. She was owner of Lengefeld Lumber Company, now owned by son Bruce Walker and daughter-in-law Jessica. Joy was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she raised her children, First Presbyterian Church, and most recently First United Methodist Church. She was the first woman on Temple’s Chamber of Commerce Board of Director’s and a board member of the Temple Symphony. Joy was a member of The Floral Arts Garden Club. She was one of the founders of The Contemporaries and a longtime supporter of the CAC. Joy was passionate about her faith, her family, as well as the arts. She was an accomplished artist, studying art under J. Bryant Reeves and Bill Howell. Survivors include her children Betty Lou and husband Ty, Bruce and wife Jessica, grandchildren Austin Fell and wife Krysta, Lindsey Fell, Branan, Connally and Harrison Walker and great-grandchildren Colton and Jaxson Fell. She is also survived by her devoted sister Betty Jean Cloud and husband Bill, nieces Renee Fuller and Susan Bolton and a nephew Perry Cloud. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Temple. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Ronald McDonald House of Temple or The Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
