Lois Irene Hopson Clawson

Lois Clawson, 87 years old, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2010. She was born September 24, 1922, in Meridian, TX to Jack and Lena Hopson. Raised in Mound, Lois graduated in 1940 from Flat High School and later from Durham's Business College in Austin. She also attended The University of Texas. In 1943, Lois married her high school sweetheart, Gayle Clawson, in Salinas, CA, where he was serving in the Army Air Corps. They were married 67 years before Gayle went to be with the Lord four months ago. To this union was born four children: Dorian, Mart, TX; Gina Winkler, Westlake, LA; Eva Jo Payne, Valrico, FL, and Pansy Durtschi, Dallas, TX. Lois loved life and the activities of every day. Her church, First Baptist-Temple, where she had been a member since 1968, kept her busy with Sunday School, WMU, Senior Adult Choir and Triple L. She was a member of TEEA, Sportsman Club, and Midway FCE Club. Recently, Lois and Gayle moved to a retirement facility where they were involved in many activities including leading exercise classes, playing 42, and attending weekly church services. They were crowned Valentine King and Queen there in 2008. As a homemaker and young mother, Lois kept busy with PTA, Camp Fire Girls, coaching softball, and keeping her children involved in various musical, sporting and school events. In 1960, the Clawsons were named Family of the Year in Lubbock, TX. Lois became Nana to 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, 2 of whom preceded her in death. She had 3 brothers: R.G., Clarence and Raymond Hopson, and one sister, Viola Newton, all of whom preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home on Saturday, February 6, at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be prior to the service, 12:00 P.M.-1:30 P.M. Burial will be at Flint Creek Cemetery.
