

María Rivas, de 71 años, residente de Temple, Texas, falleció pacíficamente el jueves 7 de agosto de 2025 en un hospital local. Nacida el 14 de julio de 1954 en El Salvador, era la querida hija de las difuntas Encarnación y Rosa Elena (Guevara) Rivas. María vivió una vida basada en la fe, la familia y el amor. Será recordada por su fortaleza, bondad y profunda devoción a quienes la rodeaban. Su viaje desde El Salvador hasta Temple, Texas, refleja la valentía y la resiliencia que definieron su vida. Le sobreviven sus queridos hijos, Walter Martínez y Néstor Martínez, ambos de Costa Rica; seis queridos nietos: Walter y María, de Temple, Texas; y Ashley, Samy, Alex y Danny, todos de Costa Rica. También le sobreviven sus hermanos: sus hermanas Hilda, Cristina, Delmi y Ada Rivas, y su hermano Ulises Rivas, todos de Temple, Texas. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Encarnación y Rosa Rivas. El recuerdo de María perdurará en el corazón de quienes la conocieron y amaron. Deja un legado de amor, fe y familia que seguirá inspirando a quienes la rodearon. Que descanse en paz eterna.
Maria Rivas, age 71, of Temple, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at a local hospital. Born on July 14, 1954, in El Salvador, she was the beloved daughter of the late Encarnacion and Rosa Elena (Guevara) Rivas.
Maria lived a life grounded in faith, family, and love. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and deep devotion to those she cared for. Her journey from El Salvador to Temple, Texas, reflects the courage and resilience that defined her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple. She will be laid to rest following the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd., Temple, Texas 76504. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Maria is survived by her loving sons, Walter Martinez and Nestor Martinez, both of Costa Rica; six cherished grandchildren—Walter and Mariah of Temple, Texas, and Ashley, Samy, Alex, and Danny, all of Costa Rica. She is also survived by her siblings: sisters Hilda, Cristina, Delmi, and Ada Rivas, and her brother Ulises Rivas, all of Temple, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Encarnacion and Rosa Rivas.
Maria’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will continue to inspire those she touched.
May she rest in eternal peace.
