Marjorie E. Sagert, age 83, a resident of Temple, Texas went to be with the Lord Monday, April 2, 2007 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 5, at Taylor's Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Loudin officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 8 PM Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Marj lived a life full of exciting experiences living in Japan, Norway and seven different states. Wherever she lived, she devoted her life to service for her God, her family and her friends. She grew up in Denver, Colorado. She was raised by her grandmother, who taught her about the love of Jesus Christ. For the rest of her life, Marj showed the love of Christ to others. As an early teen, she found herself caring for her mother, who was incapacitated with a lengthy illness. Immediately after World War II, she met and married the love of her life, a dashing young Air Force pilot named Stan Sagert. Stan and Marj were blessed with 62 years together, living all over the world. Over the years, they had four children three daughters and a son. Their final tour of duty was in Hawaii. They loved life in the islands, and retired in Kailua, on the island of Oahu. They spent 38 years in Hawaii serving the Lord. Marj had a special musical gift. She could play the piano and sing beautifully, but her real passion was directing the choir of Makakilo Baptist Church. A small church at the time, the Makakilo choir consistently won awards at statewide choir competitions, competing well with many larger church choirs because of the passion for the music and the Lord that Marj instilled. She was also heavily involved with the Compassion Ministry and the Family Ministry at Makakilo Baptist, helping others through trying times and strengthening the families in the church. Over the years she helped others understand the love of Christ by seeing it in action through her. Stan and Marj sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family, who were just beginning a new life in the United States. Marj also actively worked with Stan, who served as President of Hawaii Baptist Academy (HBA). She accompanied him on trips to the mainland to visit the many friends of HBA that are members of the Mainland Advisory Council (MAC). Marj loved animals as well. She was a supporting member of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), as well as animal rescue organizations on both Oahu and Maui. She loved dogs and cats and they loved her. Marj devoted her life to her husband Stan, daughters, Penny, Marlee and Kristin and son Stan, as well as seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They have been richly blessed through her life. Memorials in Marj's name may be made to the Stan Sagert Scholarship Fund at Hawaii Baptist Academy, 2429 Pali Highway, Honolulu, HI 96817.
