

Melanie Dare Krueger, age 35, of Belton died Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, May 9, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Kneip officiating. Burial will be private. Miss Krueger was born February 25, 1974 in Fort Worth to Walter A. Krueger, Jr. and Linda Rae Kilman Krueger. She graduated from Belton High School in 1996. One highlight of her life was the standing ovation that she received from her classmates when she walked across the stage to receive her diploma. She was an "Air Force Brat" and had traveled all over. Another highlight was being presented her Special Olympics Gold Medal by Susan Butcher, Iditarod Winner in Anchorage, Alaska in 1987. She was also very proud to be chosen Special Olympics Area 12 Athlete of the Year in 1999. She participated for many years in the Belton Blazers. She volunteered for almost seven years at the Texas Department of Health in Temple. She worked for many years at the MHMR Training Center in Temple. She enjoyed Tuesday night "Fun Nights" at the Gober House and "Camp Funshine". She enjoyed quilting and helped make many quilts for fundraisers for the Belton Blazers and The Arc of Bell County. She also made quilts for Project Linus. She dearly loved and appreciated her many friends. Survivors include her father, Col. (Ret) Walt Krueger and her mother and best friend, Linda Rae Krueger of Belton, her adoring sister Cindy Helmcamp and husband, J. Ray Helmcamp of Belton, two loving nieces, Phoebe Helmcamp of Belton and Natalia Gibler of Anchorage, Alaska and two nephews, Julian Cleary and Bryce Gibler-Halvorson of Anchorage. Also surviving is an aunt, Ingrid Jonas and husband, Frank of Belmont, California and Melanie's beloved "Kitty". In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Arc of Bell County, P. O.
