

Melvin Kenneth Chapman Melvin Kenneth Chapman, 82 of Belfalls passed away on May 7, 2010 at Scott and White Hospital. Melvin was born April 27, 1928 to James Halbert Chapman and Mae Smithson Chapman in Vinson, Oklahoma. He married Bettye Ann Weaver on August 6, 1949 in Troy. He served in the United States Air Force, farmed, worked for Rocketdyne in McGregor, the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1985 after 30 years with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. Melvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy. He was a life member of Texas Early Day Tractor and Engine Association, and served as Director for Oenaville Belfalls Water Supply Association. Melvin coached little league baseball with the Temple City Recreation program for many years and enjoyed restoring antique tractors. Melvin is survived by his wife Bettye of 60 years, son Charles R. Chapman of Temple, granddaughter Melanie Ann Collier and husband Jason of Temple, great granddaughter Mackenzie Ann Collier. His brother, Ronald W. Chapman and wife Christine of Temple, sisters Wanda Greene and husband Loren of Belfalls and Connie Moore of Temple and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Tuesday, May 11th at 10:00 AM at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Baxley officiating. Burial will follow in Belfalls Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, May 10th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Belfalls Cemetery Association, 8590 FM 935, Troy,Texas 76579 or the Troy Volunteer Fire Department.
