On Sunday, January 15th, Merlin Moore passed away at the age of 75, following a courageous battle with cancer. He died at Scott & White Hospital with family by his side. Merlin was born on September 26, 1936, in Meadow, Texas, to Ruth and Richard Moore. Merlin graduated from high school in Lubbock, Texas and attended Southern Nazarene University where he met his wife, Joanna (Casey) Moore. Merlin and Joanna married July 13, 1956 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and then moved to San Antonio, Texas. Merlin began his career in San Antonio, and later, continued his career in Houston and Temple. He was quite the salesman; it was often said that he could "sell ice cubes to an Eskimo". Merlin retired in 2008. Highlights of their retirement included traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Mediterranean. They enjoyed traveling to visit family and grandchildren. Merlin also enjoyed classic cars, and very recently attended the Mecum Auto Auction in Dallas. Merlin was President of the Optimist's Club and enjoyed his membership at his local gun club. He was a Charter Member at Wildflower Country Club and a member and Deacon at Temple Bible Church where he enjoyed his Men's Group Bible study and volunteered in the Visitation services area. Merlin's heart was serving the Lord and sharing His love with others. He will be fondly remembered as an amazing husband, father, Poppa, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His loving kindness, humility, warmth, and compassion will be with us always. Merlin's smile and jokes lit up our world and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. His Spirit of Discernment will continue to impact our lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Richard Moore and his sister, Sylvia Moore-Elrod. He is survived by his wife, Joanna, his children, David and Melanie (Moore) Sevcik of North Wales, Pennsylvania, Reverend Rick and Emily Moore of Harker Heights, Texas, Jeff and Michelle (Moore) Folks of Lenexa, Kansas, and seven grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to our dear friends who have graciously supported us through this difficult time. Although we all will 2 miss him, we know we will soon be together again. We look forward, with confidence, to our Heavenly bodies in our eternal home with Jesus. For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:6-7
