

A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. for Neyva Maxine Summerside, 95, of Temple, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2401 South 57th St. in Temple. Services are under the direction of Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple. The Reverend Thom Lamb will officiate. Neyva Summerside died May 23, 2015. Neyva was born in Genesee, Idaho. She attended schools in Genesee, where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 500. She is a graduate of the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and English. Neyva was voted May Queen her senior year by Associated Women Students. It was at the University of Idaho that she met the love of her life, George. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, Arizona on July 27, 1942. Neyva Summerside was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho for 8 years; she transferred her membership to Libby, Montana for 50 years, and then to Grace Presbyterian Church in Temple, TX for the last 10 years. In Libby, Montana she was a member of Sons of Norway Lodge and Eastern Star. She taught English for one year before she married George. Neyva enjoyed playing bridge, traveling in the United States and abroad, and entertaining family and friends. She was a gracious hostess and gourmet cook. Neyva was preceded in death by her husband George, parents, four brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Summerside of Santa Barbara, California, daughter Laurel Blair and Roosevelt Smith of Temple and children Henry David (Hank) Blair and wife Tonya, and great-grandson , Ethan of Lampasas, Elizabeth Rinker and husband David of Killeen, and Tanya Glanzman and husband Luke and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Tyler of Amelia, Virginia. The family gives thanks to the staff of Meridian Health Center and New Century Hospice for their gentle care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army, P.O.
