Patricia Leone Meaders Greer, known to her countless friends and loved ones at Pat, and in her younger years as Patsy, passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by family who love her dearly on December 28, 2025, in Temple, TX. Born January 24, 1938, in Anniston, AL to Esther Ray Meaders and Leon Charles Meaders, whom she adored, Pat’s childhood summers were spent in upstate New York on Silver Bay with her two older sisters, at Lee Farm and Camp Sumatanga in North Alabama, and Camp Merri-Mac in North Carolina. She attended Anniston High School and went on to Auburn University. She later moved to New York City to pursue art but instead became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. Her artistic skill landed her an opportunity drawing maps for Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, TN, and it was there she met her future husband, William Alvin Greer, Sr. She and Bill ultimately settled in Birmingham, AL, and she became what she what she always wanted to be—a mother. Daughters Libby and Emily were born in the mid-seventies, and her undying devotion to them was marked by giving them every ounce of love, support, confidence, fun, and inspiration that any two kids could ever want. Her girls grew older, and Pat earned a living in another artistic endeavor, as a talented dressmaker and seamstress. She retired from Saks Fifth Avenue in 2013 and journeyed west to Temple, TX to join Emily and her family and help raise her two grandsons.
No matter where she lived or what work she pursued, Pat was defined by and committed to her deep, abiding faith in God. A compassionate leader, Pat’s impact on her community showed in her generous spirit and her gracious kindness. Her missions included serving her church’s homeless ministry, serving meals and smiles to those who needed a neighbor, and using her skill to knit beautiful “welcome blankets” for migrant families. She baked goodies for neighbors and churchmates, took casseroles for new babies and deaths in the family, and religiously sent thank you notes. She spent hours in prayer, studying over bible study lessons she taught, and challenging herself in thoughtful reflection, careful to ensure her perspective was meaningful but not exclusionary or judgmental. She walked with God.
Pat is survived by her two daughters, Emily Gary and Libby Greer; sons in law Jonathan Gary and Erick Gustafson; grandchildren John Mark and Michael Gary and Ander and Greta Gustafson; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters Frances Meaders Klein and Eva Ray Swindall, and her husband, Bill. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7th at Grace Presbyterian Church in Temple, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring her memory through contributions to Family Promise of Bell County.
