
Paul Eugene Burns III, 58, of Temple, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, in a Temple hospital. Prayer services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Ranjan Cletus officiating. Military graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Killeen City Cemetery. Mr. Burns was born January 26, 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Holy Name Elementary School in Fort Worth. He then moved to Dallas in 1956, attended St. Cecelia Elementary School and Greiner Junior High where he played football and sang in the choir. He then attended Sunset High School in Dallas where his Latin notebook was placed in a time capsule of the cornerstone of the school building; he later attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. In his senior year he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He celebrated his 18th birthday while participating in the landing invasion of Vietnam. He volunteered for two combat tours in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts. After his service in the Marines, he joined the army and was stationed at Ft. Hood where he served in the 502 MP Company, 2nd AD. After his military service, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in computer science. For many years he was a resident of Austin where he worked at the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, Bookstop, and Travelfest. In recent years he was the webmaster for Bookpeople in Austin. Upon moving to Temple he worked at Waldenbooks in the Temple Mall. At the time of his death he had just completed the development of a distance learning website for the Art History Department at Temple College. A scholarship in his name is pending at Temple College. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Burns, Jr. He is survived by his son, Paul E. Burns IVof Denton, Texas; his mother, Kathy Burns of Lampasas, his brother and sister-in-law, Jeb and Angela Burns of Gholson, Texas; his sister, Keb Burns of Temple, and his brother and sister-in-law Jim and Margaret Burns of Temple.
