

Funeral services for Reverend Jack Howell Cox, will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home at 3110 Airport Rd., Temple. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Highway 195 South, in Killeen. Reverend Cox died on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in Killeen. He was born on April 4, 1937, in Temple to the late Aaron Erskine and Winnie (Honeycutt) Cox. He graduated from Temple High School and was a lifelong resident of the Bell County area. Rev. Cox at the time of his death was the pastor/founder of the Faith Temple Lighthouse Church, in Temple, and was an ordained minister for over thirty years with the Pentecostal Church of God. He also served as a PCG district official for over eighteen (18) years. During the mid 1980's he served as a Chaplain for the Scott & White Hospital, as well as Police Chaplain for the Rural Area Narcotics Task Force in the late 1990's. He also served as a member, and past vice president of the Temple Ministerial Alliance. Rev. Cox can be remembered by many as a disc jockey for KTON Christian radio during the mid 90's, and a proud member of the Central Texas Sportsman Club. He proudly served his country for over 11 years in the mid 1950'-early 1960's as a member of the US forces army/army national guard obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was assigned to the 49th Armored Division and served with the mobilization of the 49th during the Berlin Crisis. He received numerous honors for his service. Rev. Cox leaves behind his most valued possessions; His family. He will be truly missed. He leaves a life time of cherished memories to his loving wife of over 53 years, Mattie Lee (Spencer) Cox of Temple, his two sons, Jackie Cox, and wife Angie of Killeen, Garry H. Cox, and his wife Beatrice of Ding Dong, TX. His grandchildren, April, Brandon, Tyler, Courtney, Justin, Hunter and his great-grandson, Ryley. His sisters, Juanita Brinzo, Eleanor Hess, Brooksie Shepard all of Temple and many other loving family and friends. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Temple Memorial Fund, c/o Rev. Mattie Lee Cox, Faith Temple Lighthouse Church, 820 S. 21st. St., Temple, TX 76504. Pallbearers will be Brandon Cox, Tyler Cox, Mike Kersey, Jackie Cox, Garry Cox and Robert Lee Finto. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Lopez, Hunter Cox, Ryley Cox-Kersey and Jamal Hill.
