Ruth A. Mayfield

Ruth Annette Mayfield, age 81, of Rogers, TX passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at a local nursing center. She was born on August 14, 1933 in Schwertner, TX the daughter of L.R. "Doc" and Leona Whiteley. Ruth graduated from Bartlett High School and then earned a diploma from the Austin Business School. On December 22, 1951 she married Sherman Mayfield and they were the second couple to be married at the Val Verde Baptist Church. Ruth worked as the secretary to the Editor of the Temple Telegram and went on to work for MHMR. She enjoyed spending her time scrapbooking and reading. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Mayfield and son-in-law, Kenny Waits. She is survived by her daughters Cindy (Len) Mewhinney of Salado, TX and Margie (Vernon) Waits-Rose of Rogers, TX, grandchildren; Jason Waits of Rogers, TX, Stacey (Drew) Sisneroz of Rogers, TX, Jeff (Lesley) Waits of Rogers, Lauren (Jimmy) Smith of Waco, TX, Jacob (Chelsey) Mewhinney of San Antonio, TX, 6 great-grandchildren, a brother Joe "Sonny" (Wanda) Whiteley of Temple, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home 3110 Airport Rd. Temple, TX. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Val Verde Baptist Church in Holland, TX followed by an interment at Val Verde Baptist Cemetery.
