Samuel R. Jones, Jr.

Samuel R. Jones, Jr., age 61 of Temple, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Gary DeSalvo officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Sammy was born November 14, 1952 in Temple to Sam and Jean Jones. He attended schools in Temple and graduated from Temple High School in 1971 where he was an outstanding Wildcat Football and Baseball player. He graduated from McLennan Jr. College in Waco in 1973 as a Registered X-ray Technician and began working at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Hospital in Temple. He retired from the V. A. Center in 2011. He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include his parents, Sam and Jean Jones of Temple, two sons, Samuel Christian Jones and wife, Krista and Chad Weston Jones and wife, Danielle all of Temple, one daughter, Tracilyn Jones of Los Angeles, California and three grandchildren, Cole Douglas Jones, Taylor Nicole Jones and Jake Robert Jones all of Temple. Also surviving are two brothers, Steven Chad Jones of Temple and Timothy Scott Jones of Brady and a sister, Sally Schmalstieg of Sinton. Memorial donations may be made to Ralph Wilson Youth Clubs.
