Sula Ray Walling, age 87, of Temple passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, June 1, 2007. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 5 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel in Temple. A private family burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery preceding the memorial service. Mrs. Walling was born December 9, 1919 in Temple to Raymond and Floy Duncan. She had one brother, Michael G. Duncan. She graduated from Temple High School in 1937. She married Bill Walling on November 20, 1941, in the First Baptist Church of Temple, where they have been lifelong members. She was very active in the nursery in her younger years. Bill and Sue celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November, 2006 with a special weekend in Salado with their family. Sue loved being outdoors, digging in the dirt at the farm in Jonesboro and growing a vast array of plants and flowers. Sue was also known for her phenomenal work in the kitchen. She could make a 5 course meal without even getting out a measuring cup or a recipe. Family was always first with Sue and she instilled that value in the rest of us. We have all been blessed to have been touched by such an amazing lady and we are all better people for having her in our lives. Susie Girl, as she is loving known by her family and close friends, is survived by her husband, Bill Walling, Sr. of Temple, daughter, Rebecca Phillips and husband, Richard of San Marcos, son, Bill Walling, Jr. and wife, Judy of Edmond, Oklahoma, granddaughter, Kristin Day and husband, Eric of Boerne, grandson, Kyle Phillips and wife, Kimberley of Jonesboro, great grandchildren, Morgan, Mallory and Carson Day and nephew, Rodger Duncan of Belton. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur "Doc" Ballard, Charles Cox, Rodger Duncan, Tommy Gibson, Tim Goad, Collins Janeway, Jack Weinblatt and Jimmy Weinblatt.
