Dennis Michael Murrin, age 69, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Saturday, December 21, 2024 after fighting a long battle with cancer. He was lovingly cared for in his final moments by his beloved significant other, Patricia. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Dennis resided in Avenel for 25 years before moving to Toms River in 2019.
Dennis was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching baseball games, setting sail on many cruises with family and friends, and playing slot machines in Atlantic City. Dennis was a loyal friend who touched the lives of all who knew him. He worked as a truck driver for the same family-owned company for over 40 years and was known for his tireless work ethic and quiet generosity. Known as a man of few words but a heart of gold, Dennis would often check in on friends, lend a helping hand, or shovel a neighbor’s driveway. He made every neighbor a friend and every friend feel like family. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Charles and Rose Murrin (née Landolfi) and his two brothers Joseph Murrin and Charles Murrin. Surviving are his loving partner of 41 years, Patricia Getchius; his daughters Shannon Murrin (Ernesto Diaz) and Amanda Murrin; his stepchildren Dawn Getchius and Kevin Getchius; his five grandchildren Mychelle, Briana, Corey, Corrin, and Jayden; and his great-grandson Makai. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Lovas; brother-in-law Alan Lovas; sister-in-law Theresa Murrin; five nephews Alan Jr, Adam, Joe, Chuck, and Rocco; and grand-nephews, grand-nieces, and friends.
A memorial service will take place on Friday January 3, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd, Toms River. Light snacks and refreshments will be served as friends and family gather to share memories and honor Dennis’s remarkable life. Interment at Woodbine Cemetery and Mausoleum, 14 Maple Ave, Oceanport, NJ will serve as his final resting place on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
