Eleanor Parisi, 87, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away Wednesday October 7, 2020 at House of the Good Shephard Nursing Home. Born in 1933, Eleanor spent her early years in Ferrara, Italy, and eventually settled and raised a family in Rockaway, New Jersey. Eleanor also lived in Sarasota, FL and Toms River, NJ before moving to Hackettstown five years ago. Eleanor spent time in retail and nursing positions, but was most focused on her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. Beloved for her angelic heart, good humor and culinary wizardry, Eleanor most loved spending time with her family and friends.
Eleanor was also resilient and determined. At age twelve, as World War II ended for Italy, she courageously journeyed by sea to the United States, accompanied only by her fourteen-year old Uncle Albert, to join family in New Jersey. Arriving in America speaking little English, Eleanor adapted quickly and thrived.
Eleanor was perhaps best known amongst family and friends for her incredible Italian cooking. Holidays were incomplete without her stuffed clams and other delights. Her love of cooking demonstrated her passion for taking care of others – a trait that shined through in her roles as mother, aunt and Nana.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Frank and her parents Lulu and Hector, and is survived by her son Mark and his wife Lisa, her son Greg and his wife Alissa, her beloved grandchildren, Christian, Dante, Elena, Bennett and Corinne; her sister Jan Lovenguth, Frank’s brother Robert and wife Linda, her sister-in-law Laura, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday October 14, 2020 from 10:30 am till 12pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ 08755, with services to begin promptly at 12pm.
