Frank Mastroianni, age 80 of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away during the quiet early morning of August 10th, 2024, at Community Medical Center. Few people moved through life like Frank did. Much like one of his cherished paintings, Frank masterfully blended the joyful, silly, and vibrant moments with the difficult and sometimes somber ones, to form beautiful and breathtaking memories with his family and friends.
Frank was born on November 4th, 1943, to his loving parents Frank and Florence Mastroianni. The quintessential middle child, Frank easily fell into the roles of devoted son and loving brother to his two adoring sisters, Elena, and Emily. These two callings not only shaped him as a man, but as a father and grandfather later in life. Frank made sure to impart the importance of love and devotion to family to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, serving as a guiding light to many.
Frank was fortunate enough to meet and marry the love of his life at an early age. Together for almost 61 years, Frank and his loving wife Candi were looking forward to celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary this upcoming September 24th. They spent a lifetime together, dedicated to raising their beautiful family and experiencing life to the fullest. Frank always marveled at how lucky he felt to have captured Candi’s heart and to have been blessed with his doting daughter Andrea, and his devoted son Neil. Frank was thankful for every blessing in his life, big and small.
Frank was not one to sit still and led a highly active life. Chief among the many pursuits Frank enjoyed throughout his life, was the martial art form of Isshin Shorinji-Ryu. A tenth level Dan, Frank spent countless hours dedicated to the pursuit of self-discipline, balance, and teaching others to walk through life with open hands and hearts.
Frank’s other great passions in life centered around his family. Frank shared his love of Maine with his children and grandchildren with frequent visits to his beloved Lake Saint George and hiking the beautiful surrounding landscape. Frank also enjoyed making memories with family while on vacations to Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland, and the Mediterranean. If Frank wasn’t practicing karate or spending time with family, he could be found painting beautiful watercolors of his favorite places or sitting in his backyard oasis, building a cozy fire in his fire pit.
Frank’s most prized possessions were not his karate Gi, his paint brushes or even his 1963 Corvette. His most valued belongings were his children and grandchildren. His beloved daughter Andrea, his treasured son Neil, his charismatic grandsons Aidan, Michael, Matthew, and his adoring granddaughter Sofia are his lasting legacies of his character, warmth, zeal, and kindness.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Candi Mastroianni. He is also survived by their two children, their spouses and their four grandchildren. They include his daughter Dr. Andrea Gorman, her spouse Sean Gorman, grandson Aidan Gorman; Neil Mastroianni and his spouse Erin Mastroianni, grandsons Michael Mastroianni, Matthew Mastroianni, and granddaughter Sofia Mastroianni.
As mentioned, Frank was the middle child of three. He was predeceased by his eldest sister Elena, as well as his parents Frank and Florence Mastroianni, and he leaves behind his younger sister Emily Lattig, his niece Melinda Lattig and nephew Justin Lattig and countless cousins, extended family, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Frank's Life will be scheduled in the near future.
