Howard “John” Bixler, 78, of Toms River, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026. John was born in Neptune and grew up in Wall Township. He attended Wall High School, graduating in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966, working as an Air Operations Specialist in Libya. John was hired at the Manchester Police Department shortly thereafter, working as a patrolman, sergeant, and detective until his retirement in 1995. In his later years he could be found enjoying good meals out and spending time with his grandchildren.
Howard was predeceased by his parents, Howard Emerson Bixler and Rosalie K. Ruegg, and his cousin, Elsie Dubac. Surviving are his children, Michael Bixler (wife Alina) of Island Heights, NJ and Brian Bixler (wife Jocelyn) of King George, VA; mother of his children Linda West; five grandchildren: Andrew, Dylan, Gavin, Eddie, and Shawn; his cousin Jeannette Strain (husband John and children Joanne, Michael, and Billy) of Wall. A private service will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Quinn Hopping Funeral Home.
