Born on June 4, 1947, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jack was the son of John and Margaret Norton. He attended West Virginia University and went on to build a long career with the Hudson County Probation Department, where he served as Manager of the Criminal Division.
Jack had a gift for conversation and could strike up a chat with just about anyone he met. He had a keen eye for photography and especially enjoyed capturing images of pets and wildlife. Fishing was another of Jack’s favorite pastimes, and he loved spending the day at Island Beach State Park, rod in hand, enjoying the peace of the ocean. He enjoyed sharing these passions with his grandchildren.
Above all, Jack enjoyed time spent with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and conversation. Those who knew him will remember his easygoing nature.
In his later years, Jack was lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff at Alcoeur Gardens, whose kindness and compassion meant so much to him and his family. He even became the self-elected "mayor" of Alcoeur Gardens.
He is survived by his children, Catherine (George) Sarris and Lisa (Robert) Montgomery; his grandchildren, Kiley Montgomery, Alexandra Sarris, and Michael Sarris; his sisters, Mary Lou Di Staulo and Beth Ann Hearns; and former wives Mary Norton and Annette Norton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Norton, and brother Joe Norton.
Visitation and service will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 10am to 12:30 pm at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home in Toms River, followed by his burial at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the Dementia Society of America (dementia society.org) or Alcoeur Gardens, Toms River.
