

Joseph E. Manzione retired New York City Detective passed away Wednesday February 8th, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Joseph Manzione was born in Staten Island, New York and grew up in Rosebank. He graduated from New Dorp High School in 1954 and received an associates degree in liberal arts from the College of Staten Island and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957. He was stationed in Washington, DC aboard the USS Great Sitkin. When he returned from the Navy he worked as a billing clerk for eight years with Rohner Gehrig, Inc. until joining the City Police Department. He was promoted to the rank of Detective and worked out of the 6th precinct and then to the Crimes Against Persons Squad at the 122nd precinct in Staten Island retiring in 1984. After his retirement he worked for 3 years as a private investigator. After moving to Toms River in 1996 he became president of the Carefree Community, President of Carefree Golf Club and AC Express Bowling League in Holiday City, Toms River. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Manzione, NYPD who died in the line of duty in 1979. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Margaret, his sons Joseph of Staten Island and Vincent of Staten Island; daughter Doreen and husband Andrew Dell’olio of Staten Island; brother Eugene and wife Philomena; grandchildren Joseph, Nicole, Danny, Jenna and Christine and great grandson Michael. Our father was a fashion conscious man with hands of gold who was always there for all of his children and will be missed terribly. Visitation will be Friday February 10th, 2012 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08757. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church in Toms River, NJ. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Leukemia Research 3520 Lake Avenue Suite 202 Wilmette, IL 60091.
