Born and raised in Brooklyn, he resided in Toms River, where he raised his eldest two sons. He moved to Staten Island with his second wife prior to relocating to Brick, NJ, where he raised his youngest two sons.
For most of his life, Joe was a long haul truck driver and drove through every continental state. He spoke with everyone he encountered and made many friends along the way. Joseph also enjoyed playing the drums and was in many bands throughout his life, mainly Arthur's Dilemma. His band played in CBGB's and Max's Kansas City. Joe could recall the day in 1964 when he became a Beatles fanatic. His ability to walk, talk, and breathe the Beatles emanated in the conversations he had with those around him.
He was predeceased by his mother, Jennie DeDominicus; and his aunt and uncle, Joe and Mabel Triola.
Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Terry; his children: Joseph Matkowski and his wife Jennifer, James Matkowski, Michael Matkowski, and Matthew Matkowski; and his grandson: Dryden Matkowski.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 1-4PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A memorial service will be held in conjunction with the visitation at 3:15PM.
