Joseph Tunnero

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Tunnero of Toms River, NJ, who passed away at age 89, on January 19, 2025, after a life richly lived in service and kindness. Joseph was a Detective with the Newark Police Department for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He was known for his radiant smile and ability to make anyone feel instantly welcomed, always ready with a kind word and a listening ear, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Alfieri, Joseph Martin and his wife Maria, Maria Thulin and her husband Greg, Diane Capolupo and son-in-law Frank Barreto; grandchildren Amanda Podczerwinski and her husband Casey, Nicole, Vincent and Danielle Alfieri, MaryJo Pirrella and her husband Joseph, Anthony Barreto, Giovanni Martin and his wife Morgan, Valaniece Martin, Melissa Earley and her husband Brandon, Nicholas Thulin and forever cherished by his great grandchildren; Kylie Cobianchi, Mila and Matteo Podczerwinski, Sofia and Dillinger Earley, Aubrie and Alexander Thulin as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased in death by his wife, Mary L. Tunnero, his parents, Frank and Maria Tunnero, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, his daughter, Constance Barreto, his grandson, Matthew Misiuk as well as nieces and nephews and many other family and friends who have passed on.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 12 pm to 2 pm with services to begin promptly at 2 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ.
