

Raymond T. Smith, 84, of the Holiday City Heights section of Berkeley Twp. passed away on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at his home. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Union for many years before moving to Berkeley Twp. 20 years ago. He was a machine operator with American Can Co. in Hillside for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Holiday City Heights Bowling League, Bocce Club, Shuffleboard League and Social Club. He was a quiet and caring man who was loved by all.
Raymond was predeceased by his daughter Patti Proulx in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Dolores Scarano Smith; his son Michael Lee and his wife Jenn of Ohio; six grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, Jared, Megan, Katie, Michael, Makayla and Daniel; his brother-in-law Joseph Scarano and his wife Madeline; his ex-daughter-in-law Linda and her husband Frank. He was cared for the last two years of his life by not only his devoted wife but also his caregiver Emmanuel who became one of the family. He is also survived by 4 nieces and 5 nephews.
Visiting hours will be Friday June 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08757. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Cremation will be private.
