Rocco it was truely a pleasure knowing you. You were the perfect family man and you are remembered by everyone you've touched each and  every day.

Sorry for your loss Rest in Peace Mr. Battista. Thoughts and Prayers to the family

I happen to stumble on Mr. Battista's tribute and viewed it in its entirety.  I just couldn't pull myself away from it, for it was such a beautiful tribute to a much loved father, husband and grandfather.  One can sense the love and devotion to a man who was lovingly
dedicated to his family.  And so, I thank you for allowing me, as a stranger, to view your personal tribute; it touched my heart. God's love and blessing to you all  in your time of sorrow.

To My Father In Law for 24 yrs and my friend for over 40 yrs I can only say Rest In Peace Dad. So many great memories. The best were Christmas Eve at Uncle Ralph's or Uncle Angelo's or Uncle Eddie's withe the traditional 7 fish dinners on Christmas Eve with his Granddaughter and my daughter Stacey opening the pot luck gift exchange and 'stealing presents' from family members to playing the piano and singing Christmas songs together. Rocky was a professional gardener who was so proud of his garden and especially  the figs. I remember going to Little Falls Shop Rite and buying 3 bags of mussels for $1.00 and eating them on a Friday at Dad's house on Fairfield Rd in West Caldwell.
There were always great times together and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean which he loved. And to his wife Teresa , my love and my condolences for a woman who cared so greatly for Rocky ALL of his life! To his daughters Diane , my former wife and Barbara and Lorraine I offer my love and deepest sympathies. I am a better man for knowing your Dad. He was fair and stern and taught me so many life lessons. He even 'rescued' me for the law back in '89 in a day I will never forget. R.I.P. Dad and I will meet you in eternal life in Heaven! Uncle Roc .. So many memories … I can see the 4 of them, Aunt Terry, Uncle Roc, my mother Rosie and father Larry, sitting in our kitchen telling stories and laughing for hours.  Growing up and visiting Aunt Terry & Uncle Roc in West Caldwell it was like going to the country!!  His garden, the strawberries, his search for the hottest hot pepper.. He would tell me .. Joycie, now cut them really small and not ALLOT … those little habanero peppers where extreme!!   Dancing with him… at the Club Stardust dances .. he would tell me where to put my feet…. I was always messing up .. but he would magically fix it to where no one ever noticed.. His words of comfort and wisdom when we lost Lawrence .. his strength as he held me up…familia.. Rest Uncle Roc … I see your face and can hear your laugh right now .. something that wonderful is not meant to be forgotten, and never will be.   Love You All ..  ((((HUGS))))

I love my great grandfather and will cherish the 9 months we had together!

I will never forget the days I spent with Poppie.  I always looked forward to being babysat by my grandparents.  From running through sprinklers, chasing helicopter seeds falling from the trees, playing cards, going to the shore, to playing baseball in the back yard ruining his gardens... Poppie was always there for us.  One story I will never forget, that still brings a smile to my face, was a family dinner we had together and Poppie was pouring hot pepper seeds on his spaghetti... little did he know that the top was not screwed on properly! He ended up pouring the practically the whole jar on his food!  We all sat there and watched as he went on to eat the whole thing covered in sweat!  That story always brings a smile to my face and I can hear Poppie's laughter in my head as we would retell it.  I will also never forget when I was in high school and interviewed Poppie about his days in the military.  He was always so proud, and always took the time to tell stories to me.  I still look up to him and respect him for sharing his experiences with me.  I will never forget the experiences and good times I had with Poppie.  May you rest in peace.

I have too many memories to write about with my Poppie and all of them are amazing.  One of my favorites, that will always stick with me, revolves around a dinner we had one night in the old West Caldwell house.  It was another delicious meal cooked by Nonnie which consisted of her famous salad and roni's.  After a long day of work in the yard defending his garden from my brother and I, Pop sat down to eat his meal.  He made sure to let us know how many tomato plants we took out with tennis balls, even though I feel, he secretly never cared.  My mom and Ryan were sitting to my right and Nonnie to my left.  Pop was directly across the table form me when "the travesty" took place.  Pop went to sprinkle some red pepper flakes onto his plate of spaghetti when the entire top popped off.  He ended up emptying about half of the bottle of flakes onto his plate.  After we all had a laugh at his facial expression and unkind words spilled to the now pepper covered plate, we expected him to scoop off as much of them as he could, but......he didn't.  I remember watching in awe as he battled to eat that plate of spaghetti.  Sweating profusely, and drinking about 4 times the amount of red wine he normally would to combat the heat, but I'll be damned, he finished it all.  It was little things like that that showed his positive stubbornness and lack weakness.  Upon finishing dinner my mom loaded us up into the car and we headed back to the Poconos still laughing about what had happened.

Thank you for the countless memories that I will cherish forever and pass on to my kids.

I don't think I will ever forget the sound of my grandfather's laughter.  I will never forget the smiles and the happiness we would all have from just simply being together.  The days of my childhood spent with my parents, grandparents, aunts and cousins were some of the fondest days of my life.  My grandparents allowed for our imaginations to develop as we played in the West Caldwell neighborhood.  I looked up to my grandfather and respected him so much.  He taught us many life lessons and we admired him greatly. His love for my grandmother and pride in having served his country showed his life was devoted to something bigger than himself.  His life was devoted to love, shown through the generations and his time served as a marine allowed us our freedom. Seeing him with my son and how happy Preston made him was so joyful.  I will never forget every single holiday spent together.  All of the birthdays, anniversaries, times at the beach, great dinners cooked by my nonnie, reunions, aunt teddie's, dancing with my handsome grandfather, his garden, the past 30 years together were wonderful and I am so grateful.

I love you Poppie and I know I will see you again.  Until then, be with me in our memories.

We can truly say that Uncle Rocco was one of a kind, a gentlemen from an era that we can only learn from.  Loved his smile and laugh.  We have fond memories of Uncle Rocco, Aunt Terry and my parents Larry and Rosie, at our family poolside in Belleville.  Family and friends were top priority in his life and we will love you forever for instilling such great values.  Remembering all the fun times we had with many Club Stardust members and hoping you are all having a great time in heaven.  Love to Aunt Terry, Diane, Barbara and Lorraine and family.

My grandfather was a man who we all looked up to. Who we respected and loved with all of our hearts. My last memory with him was telling him of our fondest times together. He may not have been able to reply but he responded by squeezing my hand as hard as he could.

I will never forget the sound of the laughs he shared with my son. 

I'll miss our dances, his garden, his love for my grandmother, how proud he was to be a marine and hearing his stories.

I'll forever wish I could go back to some of the best times of my life.

I have a wonderful memory of the spark in Rocco's eyes -- the spark of loving kindness and love of family and friends. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet Rocco while visiting with daughter Barbara. Arrivederci fratello e Siempre Fidelis!

Besides our family get togethers with my father's side of the family, my fondest memory of my Uncle Roc is when I would visit Aunt Teddie in Seaside and him and Aunt Terry would come over to spend the day with us to talk and tell stories about my father and other family things.  I was always greeted with a big hug and kiss.  One day in particular, we made our way back to his house in Toms River and talked about gardening and growing vegetables for hours.  He used to hang his peppers from string to dry them out.  It is a gene that I surely shared with him.  Rest in Peace, Uncle Roc.  I know my Dad was there to greet you with open arms.  Love you.

Besides all of the Holiday Family get togethers with my father and his side of the family, one of my fondest memories of Uncle Roc is when I visited him and we talked for hours about gardening and growing vegetables.  It is a gene that I definitely shared with him.  I tried to absorb his knowledge because he was passionate about it.  Also, when we used to visit Aunt Ted and he would take the ride over and spend the day with us.  Always greeting me with a big hug and kiss.  I will miss you, Uncle Roc.  I am sure you were greeted with open arms by my father.  Love you.
