Thomas J. DeBartolo, 62, was born on September 10, 1963 to Robert and Antoinette DeBartolo. Thomas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 27, 2025. Tommy was a man defined by his integrity and commitment to his family, friends, and members of Local 27.
Thomas graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in journalism in the year 1985. Thomas began his four-year apprenticeship as a second generation sheet metal worker at Local Union 27, becoming a journeyman in 1989. In 2004, Thomas was elected as a Business Agent of Local 27. Thomas then became the President and Business Manager of Local 27 in 2021. In addition to his local union, Thomas was elected President of the Monmouth and Ocean County Building and Construction Trades Council in 2010. In 2024, Thomas was elected President of the Metropolitan Association of Presidents and Business Representatives along with General Executive Vice President of SMART International. Thomas held these prominent positions until his illness forced him into an early retirement.
While his professional life was one of leadership and advocacy, his personal life was filled with love. He married his beloved wife, Suzanne, on October 17, 1998. Over the past 27 years they built a life filled with laughter, love, family, and great friends. He cherished his time with his children Olivia and Tyler, his daughter-in-law Caitlin, grandchildren Peyton and Knox, and his mother-in-law Gail.
Tommy enjoyed summer days on the beach at Royal Sands with family and friends, cups of coffee in the morning with his TR Fitness crew, homecooked meals with a glass of red wine and his family around the kitchen table, and mostly his Sunday morning bike rides with his wife and bestfriend, Suzanne. Team Kool Nutz will never be the same without his vibrant energy and megaphone. Tommy was known for his incredible story telling abilities, his infectious laughter, and his love of all the simple things in life. He was always the life of the party that will be forever missed by so many.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Suzanne DeBartolo and mother-in-law Gail; his children, Olivia DeBartolo, Tyler Quarantiello and his wife Caitlin; his grandchildren, Peyton and Knox; and his brother John DeBartolo and wife Carol. He also leaves behind countless lifelong friends and loving family members. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Antoinette DeBartolo, and his dear brother Robert DeBartolo.
