I have so many wonderful memories of Aunt Dorothy, it is hard to know where to begin!

Dorothy was generous in so many ways.  She went through her life doing good deeds, being compassionate and caring.  And she could drive a stick shift! (I always thought that made her the "cool aunt".)

We enjoyed so many lunches  of egg salad sandwich, soup and tea, and many afternoons of tea, cookies and kind conversation.  Dorothy was a wonderful family support for me personally and for that, I shall be forever grateful.  She taught me a lot about what family meant.  She was the true guardian of her siblings.  Her sense of humour was subtle and keen.   

I recall after Bruce passed, Dorothy was heartbroken, but determined to fulfil her commitment to the annual church sale.   Dorothy went to Lee Valley Tools and took the course on how to change the blades in the band saw (twice!) so that she could complete enough woodworking/ paintings to fill the table at the sale.  She was convinced no one would want her lesser efforts (compared to the ones Bruce made and she painted).  I remember telling her that I would come to the sale for 11 am and personally buy every item that was unsold at that time.  There was not a single item left on her table (which I knew would be the case.)   I admired Dorothy for her determination, resilience and willingness to learn as the world around her changed.  

I cherish the things Dorothy created for my family, they all have important places at home and the cottage.  

The world is a better place for Dorothy having been in it, and now she is able to rest with her beloved Bruce, in love and peace.  I shall miss her very much indeed.

Aunt Dorothy (or as she often signed her letters to me—YOGHAP-- Your Old Gray Haired Aunty Person) was one my favourite people. She had such an incredible sense of humour and kind heart. I have so many warm memories of laughter over cups of tea and sandwiches. When I was interested in learning about our family history, she was so generous with her time and knowledge. I will never forget the afternoon we spent together over pages and pages of family history. I loved hearing her memories of her childhood on bloor and ossington. I feel so lucky to have have called her Aunt. She is already missed so much! Love Erin your forever grateful grand-niece 

Our Dad Fred, who was Bruce's Uncle, introduced us to Bruce and Dorothy when we were kids. We visited often from Grand Island, NY USA and always had a great time. Dorothy was a joy to see and talk to. She always insisted on feeding us. Our family sometimes joined both Dorothy and Bruce at the cottage and were even able to use it a few times by ourselves. We kept in touch with Dorothy as much as possible and when she, and Tim and his wife, were in Florida, they visited Bev a couple of times. Dorothy would occasionally send emails to us. Mostly (with tongue in cheek) they would have some reference to Canada/USA issues. We feel blessed for having known both of them. May they rest in peace together. Bev and Ray Billica

My Aunt Dorothy went to heaven on Saturday...joining her beloved husband Bruce, her sister Betty and her brothers Ted and Stan.  There will never be another like her.  Eldest sister in a family of six, she took her role of matriarch very seriously and never stopped looking out for her family.  Keeper of the Family Tree she made sure we knew where we came from.  Life-long member of St. Johns and St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Altar Guild member and teacher of Bethel, she and Bruce taught me what it meant to truly BELONG to a church, not just attend one.  Always willing to give advice, she was the one who convinced me to go to Gogama as a Junior Ranger...the summer I met four of my very best friends and the first of many wonderful summers of experiences up north.  Generous, she and Bruce shared the beloved family cottage with us for fifty years, until we got our own...3 lots down from theirs!  But most importantly, she made sure this only child and youngest member of a large extended family minded her manners and thought of others before herself.  So thank you Aunt Dorothy...I wasn't easy to live with, and I still butter my toast too loudly, but thank you for making me a better person than I ever would have been without you.  Love you...forever...
