Edison Calantas was a loving, selfless, supportive, caring father, husband, brother, son, uncle, and friend. If there was one word to describe him, it would be loving. That love from him always came from the heart from always caring and kind.
Edison was born on a small island in the Philippines, called Guimaras, to his loving family Of Benjamin Calantas and Monserat Calantas, as well as his older sister, Emery Calantas. Edi had a rollercoaster childhood, as he liked to describe it like he lived different lives. He studied mostly around Iloilo City majority of his education. He attended Central Philippine University where he met his now wife, Gemma Calantas. Later on, he got his Mechanical Engineering at the University Of Iloilo.
In 1998, Edi came to Canada with the help of his wife and got to meet his firstborn, Albert Calantas. When he got to Canada, he made sure he did his best to be there for his family, not just here now, but everyone back home. In 2002, Edison had his second child, Alben Calantas. After years of working overtime, making selfless sacrifices and putting everyone else before himself, he and his wife bought their first and only family home, with the help of other family members. As his hard work paid off, he got to buy his first car, a blue neon. Later on in his life, he has come across many accomplishments, of going back home to see his dad, getting another family car and having his last and only daughter Nadia Calantas in 2006. Edison knew he was a good dad to his kids, making sure there was a roof over their heads, there was food on the table, and that there was nothing else to worry about but them, all being happy and healthy. Later on, he got to reunite with his older sister Emery Calantas, because now she is living in Canada with him. He was always a caring brother. He always made sure she was in good hands, that she ate, that she was safe and that he was always there for her.
Edison's presence, made everyone feel welcome. He loved his workplace, and he got to work with people he had a good friendship with, yet working with the things he liked that dealing with automotive manufacturers. He was always hardworking, working overtime while with a positive attitude that just shows the kind of person he is.
Edison loved being with his friends and having a good time. His favourite thing to do is drink and chime with his boys. He loved hosting little get-togethers, and it always reminds everyone of how considerate he is. Other than drinking, he loves his Jeep. He first got his Jeep in 2017. His jeep was his new baby, and he cherished it like no other. He worked so hard for his blue jeep, and all he knew was all his work was paid off. Another thing that his favourite thing to do is spend time with Mango. Mango was Edi’s little Covid doggy. He loved to take Mango on walks, eat with him and especially to go out with the dog leashed on his blue jeep, while lawn mowing on a nice cool morning before his kids left for school. He loved to cook for people, that was something he did to make everyone feel comfortable, welcoming people to try his yummy cooking.
In October 2024, Edison Calantas was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, it was a hard journey with all the treatments, appointments, pain and strength. It was hard for friends and family to see Edi go through all the pain. After 5 months of suffering, he had his time with us. On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, at @9:17pm Edison had been relieved from all his pain. As much as it hurts everyone down here, he's now reunited with his parents, and other loved ones, and no longer suffering. Everyone cherished every second spent with his loving soul.
He will always be remembered as the best dad anyone can ask for, the world's best husband, the one and only Tito Gooding, Edi the son-in-law and the most loving brother-in-law and the all-around friend. He will never be forgotten, he may not be here with us, but his legacy will always be here with us.
