Gi Fan was born on August 21, 1924 in Cheung Du, Szechuan Province, China. She was a very resilient woman, and moved from Mainland China to Hong Kong after she was married. There she started her family and her 33-year career in education. After she retired as a teacher, she and her family moved to Ontario, Canada to join her eldest daughter who was already living there.
GI Fan loved spending time with her family. She liked going out to dim sum, shopping and celebrating different Chinese festivals and special occasions with her loved ones. She enjoyed her travels with her husband in Europe, China, and the many cruises they took together. In particular, she had fond memories of her cruise to Alaska with her grandchildren in 2012.
During her brief stay at the Yee Hong Nursing Home, Gi Fan enjoyed calligraphy and flower arrangement classes, and participated in the exercise classes conducted by the resident physiotherapist. She would push her own wheelchair down the hallway to read the menu and calendar of events. The family would like to thank the staff and the doctors at the Yee Hong Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
Gi Fan is predeceased by her husband Dennis Him-Yu Lo, her parents and younger brother. She is survived by her daughters Emily, Caroline (Sally Kwan), and Angie (David Lam), and her grandchildren, Jason and Karen Lam.
Visitation for Gi Fan will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home at 6191 Yonge Street, North York, on May 21, 2022 (Saturday) from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Her Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel of the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, 4130 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough, on May 24, 2022 (Tuesday) at 9:00 a.m.
