I'm loving and missing you so much. I will never forget you clapping your hand when people came to visit you and all of your wonderful stories. I liked hearing your favourites and I can only hope I never forget them. My toothbrush and pillow case still lay waiting in your cupboard... you wanted them there for me in case I ever needed to spend the night. You defined the right way to love family and I will do my best to show that kind of love throughout all of my days.

When we would visit Mom, and the conversation would move to reminiscing about our childhood and growing up, sometimes Mom would not see these stories in the same ‘HAPPY, LOVING, THOUGHTHUL, or FUNNY” light the story was being recounted in…her response would always be, “YOU SHOULD ALL GET TOGETHER AND WRITE A BOOK…..” 
Well, lets consider this the PREFACE.

Jayne Marjorie Joyce was first a daughter, and one who loved her father very much! She was a sister to Lois, Joan and Eddie. She grew up with lots of friends, then Tom Miller became more then a friend, and she became Marjorie Miller.  

New doors opened and she became a mother, a foster mother to some, a mother-in-law (and an out-law) a grand-mother…..a great grand-mother….and she LOVED being each and every one of those things to each and every one of us….why?
Because she loved family.

First there was the Joyce’s, then the Miller’s, the Cravens and the Wrights.  This was her family.

The Warburton’s, Websters, Smiths, Goughnours, Repaths, Bullards and Enders…. Sister Enid & Sister Honey and Sister Pat, the Miltons, Thorntons, Varlies, Actons, Youngs, and Glovers, these, and many more were all “friends” of the family, but to my brothers and sisters, they were family.

Along came Lynn, Tim, Jayne, Michael, and Robbie, the Miller family started to grow, but as their children grew, other names like Spook, Ronnie, Margie-Margie, Marianne, Marilyn, Phillip, all these names were as well known and “commonly used” in our parents home as their own children…..they just never made it onto the “DOG HOUSE plaque” hanging in the kitchen, but they were all treated like “family.”

Al and the Thomas’s, Bev and The Briggs, Doug and The Adams, Joanne and The Roy’s, Marie and The Gardners, and Bob with the Blackmore’s , the all joined and enriched her family.

Robert, David, Steven, Cheryl, D.J, Christina, Tara, Krista, Dawn, Samantha and Scott, all brought their grandmother a special kind of joy that only a grand-child can.

My Mother loved family….
I have never known someone who loved family more then her.  If someone needed a family, she opened hers, if someone needed a place to stay, she opened her home.  She did whatever it took to make someone comfortable, welcome and happy in her home, which became their home.

The sheer joy she got hearing from a child, a sister, a brother, an aunt, uncle, nieces and nephews, a cousin, cousins children, or a cousins children’s children, an in-law, and out-law, a grand child or a friend….It didn’t matter who, they all brought incredible joy for days, because she thought of them all as her family.  

At a time like this, we are suppose to reflect on the person my Mother was.  Remember the things she did, her triumphs, and how she touched our lives.
Besides her sense of humor, which will forever be classified as "a Joyce thing" (unique and hard to explain, but infectious and down to earth) and her honesty, straight forward and direct, she taught us not to be jealous of anyone, or for anyone.

“and how many times DO you ask your child to put on their jackets?”
“and all I said was……?”
“you cut, I’ll choose”
And my personal favorite, with 5 children, her response to the age old question “who do you love the most” was “the one who needs me the most.”

She never did a sport, never swam, or rode a bike, but I bet she ran like hell when she saw her dad, her husband and her brother waiting for her inside heavens gates.

It didn’t matter if her house was known as “the Grandma where you can watch tv and go to the bathroom at the same time”, “sweater Grandma”, “the Grandma with the great tarts” or “fishy Grandma” she loved knowing her home meant something special to someone.

With our “family” and EXTENDED FAMILY, my brothers and sisters were blessed growing up with influences and opportunities that enriched OUR lives by knowing these people, I feel bad the next generation have lost that connection with “family”

I want to share that same joy with my children, my nieces and nephews, my FAMILY, and create the same kind of “world” my parents provided for us.  The Miller’s, Thomas’s, Adams, the Wrights, Mallard, Sheilds, Cravens, the Gatts, Collins, Melins, Smiths, Brooks, Quinlans, and the people we choose to join our family, like the Maltby’s, the Kings, and the Hamiltons, because I saw how much FAMILY enriched my mothers life, and how happy it made her, who could ask for anything more......

On behalf of my brothers and sisters, I want to thank each and everyone of you who brightened her day by dropping in, visiting, calling, or by writing her, you made her happy!

Our sincere condolences to all of Marjorie and Toms family.  Marjorie was the first to help Fr. Vincent LoSavio at the rectory at St. Pascals, Tom and my husband Tony did all they could to get the parish running and I was the first office help to type bulletins and help Father Vincent with the bookkeeping. 
Many, Many years ago, but memories are as fresh today as when they took place.  Our sympathy to you all and know how she will be missed.  Sincerely, Bette and Anthony Saunders.

The Bright Side

From time to time,you'd somtimes ask,
What would I write once you had passed.

Then I would laugh as I did tease,
"You'll have to wait mom, if you please!"

Now sadly here I sit with pen
And think of times both now and then.

The gifts you taught - to love and listen.

Your love for dad was second to none.
You completed each other to become one.

I watched each year as your love grew.
I found the same - a love that's true.

Mom won't be getting Crown Royal because Dad will pour her Walker Special Old,
but she will enjoy it anyway now that she is with him.

Dear Mom.  You will truly be missed. You've always been there for me and I hope you know how much you were loved.  Samantha and Scott were so very luck to have you as a grandmother and myself for having you as a mother-in-law.  I hope you are with all your loved ones that went before you, especially Dad, your Mom and Dad and your brother Ed.
