Laurel passed peacefully with family close by and at her side on June 11, 2022, at Mt Sinai Hospital in Toronto. She is survived by her children Janet (Michael), Andy (Susan) and Bette (Philip), her grandchildren Emily, Max, Ian, and Annika and great grandchildren Emma, Lex, Ellie, and Kai.
She is pre-deceased by her first husband, Frank Edward Watson and her second husband David Ernest Hibbard and siblings Betty Hamilton, Murray Cridland and Evelyn Cridland. She is also survived by the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of her late husband David as well as those of her brother Murray and sister Betty.
Laurel will be remembered always as a loving mother and grandmother devoted to the many members of her extended family as well as by her expansive network of friends and neighbours in both Toronto and her retirement community of Orillia. Over the years, she hosted so many people in her home, preparing wonderful meals and making sure all felt comfortable and welcome. She was always so interested in everyone and what they were doing and could always keep track to keep the conversation going each time she met you!
The family would like to express deep thanks to the incredible team at Mt. Sinai for their skilled and compassionate comfort care. Additionally, words cannot express appreciation to the extended family at The Annex Retirement Home for the many years of social, art and physical fitness activities, of which she far preferred the social and art!
A small private service has been held with immediate family and your understanding of this decision at this time is greatly appreciated.
If you would like to share your memories of Laurel, please visit the Kane-Jerrett North York website at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca.
With great appreciation for those who have sent flowers as they are beautiful and greatly appreciated. In further lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Laurel’s memory to the Mt. Sinai Hospital at https://supportsinai.ca or a charity of your choice.
