Whether you called her nanay, nay, tita letty, or even a mallrat. I am sure each and every one of you had amazing memories with her over the years, regardless of what you called her. To me, she was, and always will be nanay. A woman with a big loving heart, a strong will, and an even stronger cane. 

She was Funny. She was Caring. She was Giving. Patient. Straight to the point. She was all these things and more. She was always smiling and was always looking out for all of us. No matter the situation. 

Whether I was 10 years old or even my little brothers were 10 years old, coming inside from playing basketball, sweating and huffing and puffing. Her first instinct was to wipe me down so I don’t get sick. Even when she would secretly wait until my parents went to smoke so that she could slip gas money in my pocket for driving her. She always thought of others first. 

She’s been a part of all our lives so long that it’s hard to imagine a world without her. But parts of her live on through each of us. Through her kids, through her grandchildren, through her extended family. 

We all know nanay was strong. She’s gone through so many things in her life, barriers, challenges, even actual physical walls.  She has been to the hospital more times than I can count. I was her uber on many of those occasions. But throughout it all, I was never worried. I knew shed be fine because she was always so strong. 

Like all of you, she was there for us, from start to finish. We ALL have literally known her for our entire existence. And whether she was sitting in Scarborough town center food court, chilling in the casinos at Niagara, or even just sitting In the corner seat in each one of our living rooms. Her memory and how amazing she was, will always be with us and has shaped who we are as people today. I speak for all of us when I say that each and every last one of us is grateful and thankful for everything you’ve done for us and hope you are resting peacefully now.

I will never forget Tita Letty’s kindness to me when she took me in and allowed me to stay with her and her family when I was starting out in Manila. She was one generous and kindhearted woman! I’m glad I was able to see her during my visit in Canada on August 2018 along with my father. He and she shared some jokes, memories, and laughter while reminiscing.

We were blessed to have Tita Letty visit us in Australia. Her and her sister, Lilia,  were so happy to be reunited and able to spend quality time together. We were all so happy to be reunited with her too, and for her to meet all the extended family. 
There were lots of outings, laughs and jokes shared, memories that will be treasured forever.

Last week, my sister and I once again stepped through the doors of this funeral home. While finalizing our mother’s services, Ken (funeral director) asked what was our mother like. He made some hand gestures. My sister and I chuckled and replied: “Neh, more like this (a hand with a swift blow on the head).”

Many of you referred to her as “German”. While this may be deemed inappropriate these days, it was an endearing term that a dear cousin of hers coined to describe how tenacious she was - and indeed she was.

Born in Pasay City, Philippines 83 years ago to Zoilo dela Cruz Fernando and Victorina Lechico Fernando, she was one of six children. Nanay (as we called her) was the last of her siblings to leave our world. Nanay and our Tatay (the late Reynaldo de Villon) married on August 12, 1956 and raised 4 children: me, Sam, Bobot and Maila. She, Tatay, Sam, Bobot and Maila migrated to Canada over 35 years ago; she was 48 years old then. Her determination landed her at jobs that were not easy to do. She was fortunate to have travelled to Australia, N. America, Asia and Europe. Two trips were particularly memorable. One was the European trip with our late aunt Tita Zen, cousins Edna/Rolly, and friends Fe/Amor. To this day, any mention of this trip have us laughing. Let’s just say it had the makings of a Chevy Chase movie adventure with Venice being an unforgettable city to Tita Zen, Edna/Rolly, Fe/Amor. The other memorable trip was our European cruise. One quick photo op in the old city of Rhodes, with its many alleys and shops, turned into a frantic search for a 72-year old with a cane for two hours. I leave this scene to your imagination.

My siblings and I wish to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for your sympathies and condolences.  While losing Nanay is most difficult to bear, we take comfort in knowing that you join us in paying our last respect to the 83 years of her life. With humbled hearts, we sincerely thank you!

We are sending our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the whole DeVillon Family.  We fondly remember Tita Let and the sweet memories of her visit here in Phoenix, Arizona on January 2011.  We enjoyed her stay and we were so happy showing her around which she really enjoyed because of the perfect January weather.  She was so delighted when we visited Toronto and had a family reunion last summer of 2018 during Canada Day.   She will surely be missed dearly.  Eternal rest grant unto her soul oh Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon her.  May she rest in peace.

Ate Letty I remember w/ been friends n then close friends like family. I treasure the happy moments n Variety Village, going to resto n walking around STC. . Last October we see each other at StC eating lunch  doing shopping jn Walmart. Those were the memories I keep in my heart n I fully believe youre ok in where you are now. My Tita Letty was a woman who always had a smile to brighten your day.  She always made me feel good with her hearty words of praise.  We would always share good thoughts about our children whenever I am in town , and gave me comforting advice on life's challenges!
There are no goodbyes , Tita Letty. Where ever you'll be , you will always be in my heart!

Lola Leti was everyone's mom. She was kind, caring and always putting other people first before her. My fond memories of her were during family parties as she would light a room up with her presence. Her upbeat personality and her food which she made out of love will be dearly missed.
