While trying to find contact information for Mr. D'Amore, I came across this site and suffice to say it was a shock. Although a bit late, my deepest sympathies to the family. He taught me Science in grade 9 and then Biology and Chemistry in grade 10.  He was one of the best teachers in Redmond, always passionate about the subjects he taught and had hope even for the most difficult of students (even though he didn't always show it). Taught many of us a passion for knowledge and to never settle for second place.  Thanks Lou. Without your guidance my life wouldn't be what it is today. 

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Lou’s passing just last night.  Lou was a good friend and choir colleague many years ago.  A tragic loss for his family and many, many friends.

It is with deep sadness that I have just learned of Lou's passing.  My heartfelt condolences go out to all his family and to all those he loved so dearly.  We have not been in touch for many years but he will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dear D'Amore family... We had the privilege of knowing Lou for only 6 short months since he bought the cottage 2 houses down from us.  We consider ourselves his Northern neighbours (in Cheltenham).  What a bright light he added to our community. I know I speak for all the neighbours here when I say what a pleasure it was to pop in on him, check on his progress with Cliff on the cottage and just generally chat and laugh with him.  He was always so welcoming.  Such an interesting person with his diverse interests and talents.  It was a bonus when Anthony came up and we got to know and admire him as well.  Lou is so greatly missed.  The cottage will always be Lou's place to us!  He had such an impact in such a short time.  Thank you for the gift of your son and grandson.  Our hearts go out to you.

It is with a heavy heart that we extend our condolences to the D'Amore family. We met Lou in the Hart House singers choir at the University of Toronto about 35 years ago and developed a close friendship with him and some other choir members that lasted a lifetime. We will miss your company, your caring and generous personality and most of all your  passion for music and being a devoted father to Anthony. I sang with Lou in the Toronto Camerata many years ago - a truly beautiful soul. We shared many fond memories - was always there for those he loved! I am shocked to hear of his passing - taken way too early. May he rest in peace. He will be in our hearts forever! <3

A wonderful man and superb singer. I sang beside him for a year and learned about my craft from listening to him. Stayed in touch periodically and was always happy to see him again. Travel peacefully, mate.

My condolences to the D'More Family, I remember Lou as a great Grade 10 and 11 science teacher at Michael Power.!  What made him truly memorable was his incredible kindness, sense of humour and his ability to take a genuine interest in everyone of his students.  The world has lost a beautiful soul!

I am shocked too learn of Lou's passing. We were choir mates for years and friends for more. I always loved to hear him sing. How very sad to have lost him so soon. Deepest condolences to Anthony and the rest of Lou's family and friends.

My memories of Lou goes back many years. We shared many outings together, skiing in Quebec, skiing in Collingwood and many other activities. With  the birth of Anthony , I feel I became part of the D'Amore family as Anthony's godfather and I will always treasure this honour. I am deeply saddened for the entire D'Amore family knowing all members including his extended family and friends will always be saddened by his death.
It will take much time and many prayers to come to accept that my friend is in heaven. Lou you became my friend and then like my adopted brother.

I worked with Lou at St. Antoine Daniel and remember fondly our chats. Lou was very passionate about the education system and  acted on those views.  He was a man of principle and conviction who wasn't afraid to let his voice be heard. Many benefited from hearing Lou's voice.

In the one year that I was chaplain to St Raphael's Elementary School, Lou was an amazing colleague and friend - we bonded over shared interests like chemistry and evangelisation! I have missed him ever since I returned to the UK, and I can only imagine how much his family miss him now. May the Lord welcome him home.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. D'Amore, whom I remember well as one of the excellent teachers at MPSJ, and was his student for Gr. 9 science and Gr. 13 chemistry. He was a fixture in the lives of many students at MPSJ, and his loss is felt deeply all these years later. My heartfelt condolences to his son, Anthony, parents, and extended family.

Lou D'Amore was a presence, manifest through a big voice, whether raised in glorious song or in enumerating the many flaws of public education.  His was a generous heart  he took care of his friends, to the end, and he loved to bring people together into the comfort of his chock-a-block home (his love of antiques was very evident) to share company, good food (delicious pizza from his painstakingly constructed outdoor pizza oven), and the ever-present music and song. 

His son was his centre, and the joy of his life.

We will always remember Lou as the big presence that he was and bemoan his passing, that was very much too soon. Rest in peace Lou D'Amore; we will not forget you, especially when we raise our voices in song.

It is heartwarming to read the many compliments and happy memories of Lou from former students. He also devoted countless hours to education outside the classroom, believing that many less fortunate students could learn more with better instruction and better curriculum. He was an inspiration to the parents, teachers and others who worked with him in the Ontario Coalition for Education Reform. We will miss his wit, his wisdom and his passion. I was convinced by a work colleague to go out and participate in Staff Arts in the mid 90s. Being a sports guy, it was never my thing. The show was Joseph and besides the chorus/choir, I was cast as one of the guards (on rollerblades) for Joseph (Lou). It was all new to me, intimidating and I wasn't really sure how to be on stage. Lou was the lead, I was a "nobody", yet he was the nicest guy and would chat with genuine interest in what we were up to... maybe it was because we were guarding him :).

My deepest sympathy to the family.  Mr D'Amore was the reason I became a chemist and I was lucky enough to have run into him at the Redmond reunion to tell him that personally.  He was a very special teacher and even more special individual.

I worked with Lou on several shows but the most memorable has to be "Joseph". I made the special coat for his role and we all kept it a secret till a few days before opening night. Then we had a drum role and Lou came out on stage with the sequinned coat on - so proud to show it off. He twirled around in his Technicolour Dream Coat and he was definitely a Super Star! Now, I think he will be the brightest star twinkling in the sky as he looks down on us!

So saddened to hear of Lou's passing - he was a wonderful colleague and such a joy to work with during our Staff Arts productions. I have especially fond memories of Lou as "Joseph"... Close Every Door will never be sung the same as he did! Sending prayers to his family at this difficult time.

He inspired me to continue with chemistry in my science years at University. I also remember his amazing voice in our school musical. Lou taught me chemistry in grade 11and grade 13. He was an outstanding teacher. My love of science began on the first day of his class and continues to this day. In his class, I learned not only chemistry, but hard work and dedication. I would not be where I am today without his help. He never compromised and never accepted mediocrity. They do not make teachers like him anymore.

My condolences to Mr D'Amore's family and friends. He was an inspirational teacher that I remember from taking his Chemistry class at Michael Power many years ago. He was always willing to discuss any topic and help with any request. I recall that he wrote up a recommendation to a university for me that was the most hilarious document one could imagine. After I read through that and laughed so well with him (surely I would never get in with that), he gave me an actual recommendation. His humour and approach to life stick with me to this day and he was one of the teachers that I was happy to return to visit with. Mr. D'Amore was someone who could influence the lives of many in positive ways. It was a pleasure to have known him. May he rest in peace.

Although I did not know Lou well, I was shocked to hear of his untimely death. I remember Lou in the musical "Oklahoma!" with TCDSB Staff Arts a long time ago, when my late husband, Norman Kelly, played a role in this show. Although I didn't know Lou well, he made a very big impression on me in our Dream Theatre Productions group. He was so gentle and kind, and so loving toward his son that you couldn't help but notice his loving and nurturing nature. I met Lou at Oakwood Collegiate when he was a high school student and I was a fledgling music teacher, and then re-connected with him many years later through musical circles. I was just telling my daughter who is currently taking high school chemistry that I had the best chemistry teacher ever.

I am in utter shock!  It doesn't seem that long ago I was in high school at Redmond.  I graduated 2002 and even though Lou was never my teacher to me he was awesome.  He has to be the most patient teacher and human being ever for putting up with me- especially looking back.  I had the biggest admiration for Mr. D'Amore while in high school and used to follow him around like a lost puppy just wanting to learn about being a teacher.  Growing up I really wanted to be a teacher and never really connected with students around my own age- except my little group.  Mr. D'Amore was so patient and kind and was always happy to talk with me.  It is because of Redmond I met my best friend Tracey- who in the long run helped me meet my Fiance. But- if it wasn't for Lou I do not think I would have ventured into Education and who knows where I would be.   I wish I could be there to say goodbye- I am in Australia but I sincerely give condolences to Lou's family and friends.
