With deep sadness, the family shares the news of the death of Marg Armstrong on Monday, February 6th at the age of 95.
Predeceased by her husband Bob (2006) with whom she enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage, her sister Ray O’Leary, and her brother John Daly. Survived by her sister Ann Peake of Trinidad, her sister-in-law Ronayne O’Connor, and her sister-in-all-but-blood, Jacquie Doran.
Loving mother of Bob (Patti), John (Kathy), and Marianne (Paul).
Devoted grandmother of Caitlin, James, R.J., Mary Margaret (Isaac), Jason and Clare.
Marg was born September 6th, 1927 in what was British Guiana and emigrated to Canada from Trinidad in 1947 to pursue training as a nurse in Toronto. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Her natural disposition for patient care and abiding compassion carried through her 40 years volunteering weekly in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
Marg’s Catholic faith was the centre of her life. It fueled her days and her generous spirit. A second mom to many, she dearly loved her friends and neighbours, and reveled in story-sharing and laughter. Mum laughed loudest and longest, often at herself. She was a keen bridge player, a tenacious solver of cryptic crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, and an avid sports fan to her last days.
In keeping with Marg’s wishes, a visitation will be held at Kane-Jerrett’s North York Funeral home on Monday March 13, 2023, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church (Ridley Blvd. south of Wilson) on Tuesday March 14, 2023, at 10:30 am.
We are grateful for the beautiful soul she was, and for a long life that she enjoyed to the fullest.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the Armstrong family.
