Mary Catherine Fallona

Mary Catherine was born February 9th 1940 in London ON.

She was the daughter of Philip J. Fallona (d. 1981) and Lillian C. Duggan (d. 1978).

She was predeceased by her sister Sheila A. (d. 1999) and her husband Daniel Thorsley (d. 2013).

Mary Catherine is survived by her brothers James P. Fallona and Rev. Dr. Michael J. A. Fallona CSB.

She will be sadly missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and all those who loved her in Canada, United States, Ireland, England, Australia, and the Philippines.

Mary Catherine was a graduate of Western University with degrees in Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry. She was a dedicated researcher in Biochemistry and most of all an amazing and skillful educator both in the Chemistry laboratories at Western and in Secondary School education where she taught and tutored Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for many years.

Mary Catherine and her brother James sponsor the Annual Fallona Family Interdisciplinary Science Symposium and Award, and a Ontario Graduate Scholarship at Western.

Recently the “Mary Catherine Fallona Scholarship in Physics and Astrophysics” has been established.

These will carry on her deep interest in enabling the education of young people.
