You have left us over 2 months already .  I still remember very well how you looked during your 2-1/2 year stay at Mon Sheong Long Term Care, though the private room is spacious and staff are nice, you didn’t enjoy at all.

Knew that you were not happy staying in the long term care home, I had been feeling sorry for not able to take care of you at home.

An eulogy for my father delivered on July 23, 2020 (Part 1 of 2):

My father was a simple man.  

He was born and raised in China.  He did not receive much of a formal education.  Instead, he educated himself.   He spoke Cantonese, Mandarin and some Basic English.  If there is one thing we can use to gauge his level of self achievement, it would be his handwriting.  Both in Chinese and English, his handwriting was much better than mine.   And I only have 8 years of University education!

My father was a simple man but he was an extraordinary father.

He knew the importance of education to him and to his children.  He made sure that all 5 of his children would be educated.   His first choice for his kids was always medical school.   I was not smart enough to make it to medical school.   My older brother did.  Dad was always proud of him!  

Not only did he put my brother through medical school, he supported me through 8 years of University.  That was all done on a salary of a bookkeeper.  An incredible act that could only be done with full devotion to his children!    For that, I will forever be thankful to you.  

Dad was proud of his boys but he appreciated his 3 daughters even more.   They were the ones who kept him company, stayed by his side and always took care of him.      Dad was in the good hands of his three daughters to the very end.     They are all here with him today.



An eulogy for my Father (Part 2 of 2):

My father was a simple man but a man with a vision.    As a young man, he migrated from communist China to British Hong Kong to find a better life.  And a better life he did find.  He met Mom.  Together, they raised the 5 of us.  

Before the return of Hong Kong to China, my father supported my sister Barbara’s decision to find a better place to call home ----- a place that is politically stable, a society where his children and grandchildren could have the opportunity to be successful, a country that respects the rule of law.    

So, at the age of 75, he wrote the citizenship test and passed.  He became a proud Canadian!  He did that not for himself but for his children and grandchildren.

Dad, we will forever be grateful for your vision.

You have lived a long and fulfilling life.   That does not make it any easier to say Goodbye.   I am consoled, however, by the fact that you are now reunited with Mom.   Mom will take good care of you in your heavenly life together.  

Goodbye for now and thanks for everything you have done for us!

Please forgive us that we could not bring you home,
Sorry that we could not be with you at your last moments

Days of sitting by yourself at the same spot are over,
No more puree, below your standard food,
Hope you will be happy with after life

Rest in peace please, Dad
Our turn will come one day.
