

His father, S.C. Sircar, was a professor of Maths at the prestigious St. Stephens College of Delhi university, where he later went on to become its Principal. His mother was Alice Patil from Dharwar in India. Raj’s only sibling, a sister Asha, is also in Toronto living with her son, Sudhir.
Raj was educated at Lawrence School, Sanawar, in north India, and after graduation, went on to St. Stephens College, Delhi. On completion of his Master’s degree in History, he went to study at Cambridge University in the UK at Sidney Sussex College, earning his M.A. Cantab degree.
He returned to India and joined Hindustan Lever. He later changed jobs and went on to become the Marketing Director of HMV.
Business opportunities brought him to Canada in 1988 where he was with Sunlife Insurance until his retirement.
Raj married Roshni Chacko Modayil and continued their life together in Toronto, raising their children. Raj and Roshni moved to North York, where they joined the Anglican Church, St. George on Yonge, becoming active members. He was also a celebrated and respected senior Mason.
Raj died peacefully after a short battle with cancer on June 25, 2023 in Sunnybrook's Palliative Care unit, where he was moved to from North York General Hospital after a month.
