Last winter, I had a chance to talk to my grandpa about his old hobby while he was still in his sickbed. It all started like, "So, Wana (that's how my grandfather used to call me), you started playing golf, how good are you now?" I told him I am getting better but generally golf is really hard. Then, my grandpa told me he was an avid angler when he was younger. When he talked about all the fishing spots he went to with grandma, all of his super awesome gears he used to own, and all the trophies he won, he was a young man again. Watching him reminiscing about all the joy he had when he was healthy made me happy for him, because I felt that he gained much strength just by remembering the good times. Life is hard, or at least it is not so easy. However, I will always remember my grandpa and how he was trying all his might to bring food to the table when everyone was poor and hungry, how he became a successful businessman after countless struggles and how happy he was when his grandchildren were born. I know just by remembering my grandpa I will gain strength to go on, thanks to all the good memories we had. Grandpa, I am forever indebted to you. When you see grandma in heaven, please tell her I love her. I will always love you, grandpa. One day, I will meet you again when the time comes. Until then, I will try my best to be like you and live like you.

The family happiness was your number one priority and you always emphasized about it.  We will look after each other & live on a happy life. Do not worry about us, father.  May your soul rest in peace... 

You were the most dedicated person to the the family. The happiness of a family was your number one priority.  I will miss you more than words can say, grandpa.

I had the pleasure of meeting grandpa Baek in 2020. Despite the language barrier, he was extremely kind, warm, and welcoming to me. He tried his best to communicate with me and thankfully we were able to do so a bit. I won't forget his smile, which radiated a lot of warmth and kindness. One of my fondest memories is how adamant he was about offering me a yogurt to eat while I was there. Like any grandparent, he wanted take care of me. Thank you grandpa Baek, I hope you're in a much better place and at peace.
