Born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1930 to Alexander and Mary Rankine, Tom married Jean (nee Bryden) in 1954 and they both emigrated to Canada that same year. First living in northern Quebec, they then moved to and settled in North York where they started a family.
Tom worked as an Engineering Surveyor, specializing in tunnels and ended his career with the City of Toronto. Retiring in 1995, Tom devoted his time to family, his garden and woodworking/carving- a great creator of furniture and toys for his grandchildren.
Tom was an active member of and steadfast volunteer at Willowdale Presbyterian Church, attending to the physical repairs and maintenance of the building. He greeted visitors, guests and members and made them feel welcome.
His quiet presence, steady hand, humour and good-natured interest in everyone he met in every circumstance will be missed by many, many people.
